The European Standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 136/WG 5 "Mountaineering and climbing equipment". The responsible German standardization committee is NA 112-04-05 AA "Bergsteigerausrüstungen" ("Mountaineering equipment"). The standard contains safety requirements and test methods for crampons used in mountaineering on firn and ice including mixed terrain. The requirements and test methods concern shape, design and strength. Marking requirements and requirements for information supplied by the manufacturer are also specified in the standard.
