Overview

This part of IEC 60034 specifies the characteristic features for eight designs of starting performance of single-speed three-phase 50 Hz or 60 Hz cage induction motors - except for pole-changing motors - in accordance with IEC 60034-1 that: - have a rated voltage up to 1000 V; - are intended for direct-on-line or star-delta starting; - are rated on the basis of duty type S1; - are constructed to any degree of protection and explosion protection. This document also applies to dual voltage motors provided that the flux saturation level is the same for both voltages. It is not expected that all manufacturers produce motors in all eight designs. Selection of a specific design in accordance with this document shall be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser. Designs other than the eight specified may be required for special applications. It should be noted that values in manufacturer catalogs may include tolerances in accordance with IEC 60034-1. The standard differs from DIN EN 60034-12 (VDE 0530-12):2017-12 as follows: a) Table 6: harmonized with the requirements for explosion-protected motors from TC31 WG27; b) Clause12: new clause on measurement procedures for starting current and starting torque; c) Annex A: new informative annex on the general characteristics of current and torque with the rotor locked; d) Annex B: new informative annex on the correction of voltage and frequency. Typical application examples include the specification and comparison of different motors with regard to their starting performance, as well as the design of motors for use in industrial plants.
