This part of the IEC 60068 series of standards describes influences and selection criteria for the specific determination of test methods for the exposure of equipment or components to cold and dry heat. The standard serves as a guideline for assigning product- and application-specific test methods and stress levels, with explanatory information. This then results in specific requirements for performing the specified tests and evaluating the results. The result should show that test specimens maintain their functionality during and after exposure to the test environment. Effects directly related to fire or explosions are the responsibility of another technical committee. The standard differs from DIN EN 60068-3-1 (VDE 0468-3-1):2012-04 as follows: a) information relating to specimen temperatures has been revised; b) information relating to tests of multiple specimens has been revised; c) the effect of air density has been added; d) a recommendation for corrective actions regarding IR radiation has been added; e) the requirements for the mounting and supports of the specimen have been revised. As a supporting guideline for the selection of specific test methods for electrotechnical products, standard 60068-3-1 generally covers a wide range of test situations; as such, there are no typical examples of application for this generally applicable standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 60068-3-1:2012-04; VDE 0468-3-1:2012-04 .
