This part of the IEC 60068 series of standards describes influences and selection criteria for the specific determination of test methods for the exposure of electrical products to damp heat, an environment with high temperature and high relative humidity. The standard serves as a guide for assigning product- and application-specific test methods and stress levels with explanatory information and also provides information on the operation of climate chambers. The result should show that test specimens maintain their functionality during and after exposure to the test environment. Functionality is assessed in terms of physical and electrical properties. Corrosion phenomena are also recorded. Effects directly related to fire or explosions are the responsibility of another technical committee. The standard differs from DIN EN 60068-3-4:2002-11 as follows: a) the requirements for distilled and deionized water have been revised; b) recommendations for the cleaning procedure for test chambers have been included; c) humidification systems (ultrasonic humidifiers and atomizers) have been added; d) the description of the mechanisms of water ingress has been clarified. As a supporting guideline for the selection of specific test methods for electrotechnical products, standard 60068-3-4 generally covers a wide range of test situations; as such, there are no typical examples of application for this generally applicable standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 60068-3-4:2002-11 .
