Overview

This document specifies the method for determining the dielectric breakdown voltage of insulating liquids at power frequency. The test procedure is performed in a specified apparatus, where the oil sample is subjected to an increasing AC electrical field until breakdown occurs. There are no specific restrictions on this document. The standard differs from DIN EN 60156 (VDE 0370-5):1996-03 as follows: a) this edition is a technical revision and essentially confirms the content of the previous edition, although it includes several updates. For practical reasons, the test procedure has not been changed due to the large number of devices in use worldwide.
