Overview

This part of IEC 60269 is applicable to fuses incorporating enclosed current-limiting fuse-links with rated breaking capacities of not less than 6 kA, intended for protecting power-frequency AC circuits of nominal voltages not exceeding 1 000 V or DC circuits of nominal voltages not exceeding 1 500 V. The standard differs from DIN EN 60269-1 (VDE 0636-1):2015-05 as follows: a) new numbering, editorial corrections, and updated normative references; b) in the English version the term "discrimination" has been replaced by "selectivity" and the term "utilization category" replaced by "utilization class"; c) the term "fuses for use by authorized persons and laypersons" has been updated; d) the replacement of fuse links has been added; e) the standard values for alternating current and direct current have been updated; f) the rated currents 425 A, 355 A, and 1 600 A have been added; g) markings: requirements and tests have been divided among the individual subclauses; h) requirements with regard to heating are only limited to the terminal temperature; i) the graphical symbol for fuse bases has been updated.
