This standard deals with the safety of microwave appliances intended for commercial use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral and 480 V for other appliances. Devices covered by this standard have open applicators. This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and thermal hazards, as well as fire and radiation hazards from electrical devices that are operated properly in accordance with the instructions for use. It also covers unusual situations that are nevertheless likely to occur in practice and takes into account the manner in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances. This standard does not apply to microwave cooking appliances for household use, including combined microwave cooking appliances (IEC 60335-2-25), commercial microwave cooking appliances with a door to the muffle/application chamber, commercial combined microwave cooking appliances with a door to the cavity/application space, and commercial microwave cooking appliances without a door to the cavity/application space and with conveyor equipment (IEC 60335-2-90), industrial microwave heating appliances (IEC 60519-6), appliances for medical purposes (IEC 60601-1), appliances and equipment for laboratory use (IEC 61010 series of standards) and appliances intended for use in locations where special conditions exist, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas). Devices covered by this document have open applicators (an overview is provided in Figure 103 as an example) for treating the load. They are divided into three types: - with an insertion applicator, typically for removing moisture by insertion into holes in floors, walls, or ceilings (an example is shown in Figure 106); - with a large-area contact applicator, typically for drying floors, walls, or ceilings (examples are shown in Figure 104 and Figure 105); - with a small-area contact applicator, typically for removing paint and spot heating (an example is shown in Figure 107).
This document replaces DIN EN IEC 60335-2-110:2022-08; VDE 0700-110:2022-08 .
