This document deals with the safety of electric packaging appliances using vacuum conditions for food preservation for commercial and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. This document acknowledges the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and thermal hazards, as well as fire and radiation hazards posed by electrical appliances when operated in accordance with the instructions for use. It also covers unusual situations that are nevertheless likely to occur in practice and takes into account the ways in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances. These appliances are not intended for household use or similar purposes. Examples of appliances within the scope of this standard include vacuum chamber appliances and vacuum packaging appliances.
