The following appliances fall within the scope of this standard: - refrigerators/freezers for household and similar use; - refrigerators/freezers used in staff kitchen areas of shops, offices and other working environments, in agriculture and by guests in hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and other accommodation; - ice-makers with built-in motor compressor and ice-makers intended for installation in freezer compartments; - refrigerators/freezers and ice makers for camping, motorhomes and for leisure boats. Ice makers for domestic use and compressor-type appliances that use flammable refrigerants also fall within the scope of this standard. The European Standard based on the International Standard IEC 60335-2-24 covers the safety of the refrigerating appliances and ice-making appliances listed in its scope, with rated voltage not exceeding 250 V for single-phase appliances, 480 V for other appliances, and 24 V for battery-operated DC appliances. Where applicable, this standard covers the general hazards presented by appliances to all persons in and around the household. This standard is not applicable to: - appliances intended for outdoor use; - appliances intended exclusively for industrial use; - appliances intended for use in rooms where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor or gas); - appliances with an integrated battery as power supply for the refrigeration machine; - appliances that are assembled on site by the installer; - appliances with separately installed motor compressors; - motor compressors (IEC 60335-2-34); - dispensers and vending machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-75); commercial refrigerating appliances with an incorporated or remote refrigerant condensing unit or motor compressor (IEC 60335-2-89); - professional ice-makers (IEC 60335-2-118). In addition, this document generally does not take into account: - persons (including children) whose - physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or - lack of experience and/or knowledge prevents the safe use of the appliances without supervision or instruction; - children playing with the appliance.
