This standard applies to electric spin-drying machines for household and similar purposes as single appliances, and spin dryers in washing machines with separate containers for washing and spinning, with a capacity of up to 10 kg of dry textiles and a drum circumferential speed of up to 50 m/s, with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which may nevertheless constitute a hazard to the general public, such as spin dryers used by laymen in shops, small businesses, and agriculture, and spin dryers for communal use in apartment blocks or laundromats, fall within the scope of this standard. The European Standard addresses the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by the appliances and machines specified in the scope, taking into account all groups of persons concerned. However, the following are generally not taken into account: - children playing with the appliance; - the use of the appliance by very young children; - the use of the appliances by young children without supervision. It should be noted that very vulnerable persons may have needs that go beyond the level described in this standard. This standard does not apply to: - spin dryers intended for laundromats; - spin dryers intended exclusively for industrial use; - spin dryers intended for use in rooms where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas).
