This standard covers electric whirlpool baths for indoor use and whirlpool baths for domestic use and similar purposes. This standard also applies to devices for circulating air or water in conventional bathtubs. It also applies to factory-made, self-contained whirlpool bath appliances or whirlpool baths in which all control and/or regulating devices and other components are integral parts of the appliance and are located within the whirlpool bath appliances or whirlpool baths or are integral parts thereof. This International Standard deals with the safety of the aforementioned electric whirlpool bath appliances and whirlpool baths. Where applicable, this standard addresses the general hazards posed by appliances to all persons in the home and its surroundings. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which may nevertheless become a source of danger to the general public, for example appliances used by lay persons in hotels, fitness centers, and similar locations, are within the scope of this standard. The rated voltage of the aforementioned equipment shall not exceed 250 V for single-phase equipment and 480 V for other equipment, including equipment supplied with direct current and battery-operated equipment. This standard does not apply to: - circulation systems in swimming pools and exercise pools; - circulation systems in swimming pools and exercise pools; - equipment for medical purposes covered by IEC 60601; - on-site manufactured, non-self-contained, permanently installed whirlpools or whirlpool baths that are specifically designed for a particular location and are assembled or erected at the final installation site. Furthermore, this standard does not generally take into account: persons (including children) whose - physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or - lack of experience and/or knowledge prevent them from using the equipment safely without supervision or instruction; - children playing with the equipment. A typical example of whirlpool bath equipment for circulating air or water is its use in conventional bathtubs. An example of whirlpool baths is the use of these products in hotels, fitness centers, and similar locations.
