This standard deals with the safety of electric toilet appliances having a rated voltage being not more than 250 V, in which excrement is stored, dried or destructed or which wash or dry parts of the human body. This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and thermal hazards, as well as fire and radiation hazards from electrical equipment that is operated properly in accordance with the instructions for use. It also covers unusual situations that are nevertheless likely to occur in practice and takes into account the manner in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of equipment. This standard does not apply to equipment intended for use in locations where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas), chemical toilets, and toilets in which excrement is destroyed by burning. However, it does not generally take into account: - children playing with the appliance; - the use of the appliance by very young children without constant supervision. It should be noted that very vulnerable persons may have needs that go beyond the level described in this standard.
