Overview

This standard deals with the safety of electric drives for shutters, blinds and awnings, intended for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase drives and 480 V for other drives. This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and thermal hazards, as well as fire and radiation hazards from electrical equipment that is operated properly in accordance with the instructions for use. It also covers unusual situations that may nevertheless be encountered in practice and takes into account the way in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of equipment. This standard does not apply to drives intended for use in rooms where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas), or to drives for garage doors with vertical movement for use in residential areas. Examples of devices that can be driven include spring-controlled awnings with folding mechanisms, curtains, grilles for closing doors and windows, and picture screens.
