Overview

This part of the DIN EN (IEC) 60519 series of standards is applicable to equipment using high frequency or microwave energy alone or in combination with other kinds of energy for industrial heating and processing of materials. It is also applicable to HF and MW generators made available to users as separate units. It shall be applied in conjunction with DIN EN IEC 60519-1 (VDE 0721-1):2020-12. Compliance with the emission values is based on the basic limits referred to in IEEE/ANSI C95.1:2019 and Directive 2013/35/EU. The maximum values for the electric and magnetic fields of the RF process frequency are taken from IEEE/ANSI C95.1:2019. For microwave emissions, the standard specifies limit values for ISM frequencies between 800 MHz and 6 GHz. For other microwave frequencies, the basic limits and DIN EN IEC 62311 (VDE 0848-311) apply. The standard requires that the systems be operated and maintained only by qualified personnel or trained staff. It does not apply to induction heating, which can be performed in the lower part of the specified frequency band and is covered by DIN EN 60519-3 (VDE 0721-3). The particular requirements for infrared electric heating systems can be found in DIN EN IEC 60519-12 (VDE 0721-12). The standard differs from DIN EN 60519-6 (VDE 0721-6):2011-12 and DIN EN 60519-9 (VDE 0721-9): 2006-06 as follows: a) the structure has been adapted to IEC 60519-1:2020; b) the scope has been extended to include high-frequency equipment, which was previously covered by IEC 60519-9:2005, which has since been withdrawn; c) the definitions, normative references, and bibliography have been updated and expanded; d) all requirements and content of IEC 60519-6:2011 that are included in IEC 60519-1:2020 have been replaced by references to IEC 60519-1:2020 to avoid duplication.
