DIN EN IEC 60721-3-9 (VDE 0468-721-3-9) deals with environmental influences on electrical products of all kinds and their classification into specific "stresses" with regard to their respective operating, transport, or storage environments (in global climates). This part specifically specifies microclimates under the conditions defined in parts -3-3 and -3-4. Based on the specified classes, test parameters or severity levels and test procedures are to be assigned in individual provisions. VDE 0468-721-3-9 does not contain any further specific requirements, but does require the engineering mapping of the actual environmental influences to be expected for the product to be tested, as far as this is possible. Effects directly related to fire or explosions are the responsibility of another technical committee. The standard differs from DIN EN 60721-3-9:1995-01 and DIN EN 60721-3-9/A1:1995-08 as follows: a) Clause 2 has been updated; b) Clause 4 has been re-edited and simplified; c) Annex A has been revised and updated; d) a new Annex B has been added and gives the origin of the constitutional diagram for humid air, which is the basis of drawing the climatogram for a microclimate. As a classification guide, standard 60721-3-9 applies to all electrical engineering products that are tested with regard to the microclimates occurring inside them; in this respect, there are no typical application examples for this generally applicable standard.
