This part of IEC 60794 defines the test procedure to examine the attenuation behaviour (change in attenuation) when an optical fibre cable with cable elements fixed at both ends is subjected to temperature cycling. This test assesses the attenuation behaviour of a cable under a no-end movement condition intended for termination with, for example, interconnecting devices or passive components. IEC 60794-1-22, method F1, is a general temperature cycling test for cables. This document replaces Method F12 of IEC 60794-1-22:2017, which shall be withdrawn. It contains an editorial revision based on the new structure and numbering system for optical fibre cable test procedures. Technical changes have also been made. The environmental test procedures contained in IEC 60794-1-22:2017 are now individually numbered within the IEC 60794-1-2xx series of standards. Each test procedure is now treated as an individual document rather than as part of a compendium of multiple test procedures. All of the details with regard to cross-references are included in IEC 60794-1-2. This document describes the test setup, conditioning, test conditions, monitoring, recovery time, final measurement, test severity, and measurement uncertainties, as well as details regarding the test report. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of the document. Application of this standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
This document replaces DIN EN IEC 60794-1-22:2019-05; VDE 0888-100-22:2019-05 .
