This document defines the test procedure F17 to measure the permanent fibre protrusion compared to the cable elements and cable sheath due to thermal exposure of a cable. This standard is part of the series of test standards for optical fibre cables. DIN EN 60794-1-2, 2017 edition, has been divided by IEC Technical Subcommittee 86A into a series of individual test standards in order to be able to make updates available more quickly and efficiently. In accordance with the guidelines of the IEC Secretariat, a new format for the numbering of test procedures has been agreed that facilitates cross-referencing from old to new and simplifies the updating of the corresponding sectional and product specifications. The agreed format is: IEC 60794-1-Xnn, where X is the second digit of the old two-digit reference, and nn is an incremental number (starting with the number of the old test method). An annex has been added to IEC 60794-1-2 that contains a cross-reference between the old and new numbering schemes. This document describes the test setup, conditioning, test conditions, monitoring, recovery time, final measurement, test severity, and measurement uncertainties, as well as details with regard to the test report. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of this document. Application of this standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
This document replaces DIN EN IEC 60794-1-22:2019-05; VDE 0888-100-22:2019-05 .
