This part of IEC 60794 describes test procedures to be used in establishing uniform requirements of optical fibre cable elements for the mechanical property - bending. This document applies to optical fibre cables for use with telecommunication equipment and devices employing similar techniques, and to cables having a combination of both optical fibres and electrical conductors. Throughout the document, the wording "optical cable" can also include optical fibre units, microduct fibre units, etcetera. The purpose of this test is to describe cable elements for splicing by determining the attenuation increase of an optical fiber cable element (fiber, ribbon, core tube, breakout unit, etcetera) when bent in a splice closure or similar device. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of this document. The standard differs from DIN EN IEC 60794-1-23 (VDE 0888-100-23):2020-09 as follows: a) reference test method IEC 60793-1-40 regarding the test setup has been removed; b) specification of the temperature to be specified in the detail specification added; c) new subclause added containing the details to be specified in the report. The standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users and provides test laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing.
This document partially replaces DIN EN IEC 60794-1-23:2020-09; VDE 0888-100-23:2020-09 .
