This part of IEC 60794 describes test procedures to be used in establishing uniform requirements for the geometrical properties of optical fibre ribbons. This document applies to optical fibre ribbons for use with telecommunication equipment and devices employing similar techniques, and to optical fibre ribbons for cables having a combination of both optical fibres and electrical conductors. This standard is part of a series of test standards for fiber optic cables. DIN EN 60794-1-2, edition 2017, has been divided into a series of standards for individual tests by IEC Technical Subcommittee 86A in order to make updates available more quickly and efficiently. In accordance with the guidelines of the IEC Secretariat, a new format for the numbering of test procedures has been agreed upon, which facilitates cross-referencing from old to new and simplifies the updating of the corresponding sectional and product specifications. The agreed format is: IEC 60794-1-Xnn, where X is the second digit of the old two-digit reference and nn is an incremental number (starting with the number of the old test method). An annex has been added to IEC 60794-1-2 containing a cross-reference between the old and new numbering schemes. The standard describes the test setup, pre-treatment, test conditions, monitoring, recovery time, final measurement, test severity, and measurement uncertainties, as well as details of the test report. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of the document. The standard differs from DIN EN IEC 60794-1-23 (VDE 0888-100-23):2020-09 as follows: a) as part of the revision of IEC 60794-1-23:2019, its content has been divided into separate test procedures. The standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users through its application and provides test laboratories and manufacturers with defined information on testing and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
This document partially replaces DIN EN IEC 60794-1-23:2020-09; VDE 0888-100-23:2020-09 .
