This document is applicable to electric light sources for use in automotive applications, for example in road illumination devices and/or light signalling devices for road vehicles. It is especially applicable to light sources listed in UN Resolution R.E.5 and light sources subject to other legislations. This document specifies the technical requirements for interchangeability for example dimensional, electrical and photometrical characteristics, and includes test methods. For the light sources listed in this document, the data sheets are contained either in this document or are included by reference to UN Resolution R.E.5. The requirements and test procedures for light sources in road vehicles described in this document only specify their dimensions and electrical and luminous characteristics. Performance requirements are specified in IEC 60810, for example life, torsion strength, resistance to vibration and shock. The requirements for miniature light sources for supplementary purposes, not subject to legislation, are specified in IEC 60983. The standard differs from DIN EN IEC 60809:2022-05 as follows: a) terms relating to matrix light sources have been added; b) Table 3 on "specific lamp types" has been updated, in particular the list of categories has been expanded; c) Section 9 on requirements and test procedures for matrix light sources has been expanded; d) Annex I on lamp types and their applications has been updated and new categories have been added. Light sources covered by this document are used in road vehicles. They are used, among other things, in headlamps for low beam or high beam, in signal lamps for indicating the direction of travel, and also for "brake lights".
This document replaces DIN EN IEC 60809:2022-05 .
