DIN EN IEC 60947-4-2:2024-02

This part of the IEC 60947 series of standards is applicable to low-voltage semiconductor motor controllers, starters and soft-starters that have numerous capabilities and functions beyond simply starting (start-up) and stopping an induction motor, such as controlled starting and stopping, maneuvering and controlled operation. These devices may include a series mechanical switching device, intended to be connected to circuits the rated voltage of which does not exceed 1 000 V AC. The purpose of this document is to state the characteristics of the semiconductor motor controllers, starters and soft-starters and associated equipment, to state the conditions which semiconductor motor controllers, starters and soft-starters are intended to fulfill, and to state the tests to be used to verify that these conditions have been met, and to define the test procedures for these tests. This document is not applicable to semiconductor motor controllers and starters used for continuous duty of AC motors at speeds other than normal speed, to electromechanical contactors and external overload relays, to electronic equipment, including semiconductor contactors, variable-speed electrical power drives and for semiconductor motor control devices and starters for rotor circuits. Furthermore, this standard is not applicable for the use of the product in explosive atmospheres, for software and firmware requirements and for cyber security aspects. The standard differs from DIN EN 60947-4-2 (VDE 0660-117):2013-05 as follows: a) exclusions from the scope of application; b) editorial correction of notes and introductory paragraphs; c) reference to IEC 62683-1; d) safety aspects with regard to: - general aspects; - energy-limiting circuits; - electronic circuits; e) mention of associated wiring accessories; f) measurement of power consumption; g) alignment with IEC 60947-1:2020.
