Overview

This part of IEC 61010 specifies safety requirements for hand-held and hand-manipulated probe assemblies for electrical test and measurement, and their related accessories. These probe assemblies are for non-contact or direct electrical connection between a part and electrical test and measurement equipment. They can be fixed to the equipment or be detachable accessories for the equipment. It should be noted that additional requirements regarding the health and safety of operating personnel may apply. The standard differs from DIN EN 61010-031 (VDE 0411-031):2023-02 as follows: a) Clause 1 has been thoroughly revised, general information has been moved to Clause 4, the subsequent clauses have been renumbered, and the former Clause 9 has been deleted; b) the normative references have been dated and new ones added; c) Clause 3: The references for terms have been updated where necessary; d) 3.1.4: The definition of CONTACT TIP has been changed; e) no distinction is made between high-voltage and low-voltage measuring accessories in 4.1; type C measuring accessories and type B measuring accessories have been combined; f) in 4.1 d) "Kelvin probes" have been added as a new type E to the list of measuring accessories and a new Figure 5 has been added; g) in 4.1 e) measuring accessories for voltage measurements without electrical connections have been added as a new type F to the list of measuring accessories and a new Figure 6 has been added; h) the spread of fire is no longer considered a HAZARD in 4.2.1; i) Subclauses 4.4.2.5 and 4.4.4.3 have been deleted; j) DISTANCES and impedances are considered in 5.4.4.1; k) removable CONTACT TIPS which are marked are permitted in 6.1.1; l) 6.1.5: the voltage marking for MEASURING CATEGORIES refers to alternating voltage to neutral or direct voltage, not to the voltage to earth; m) 7.4.2: the requirements for non-connected CONNECTING DEVICES have been changed: 1) Table 2 has been amended and supplemented, 2) a calculation method for the CLEARANCES of CONNECTORS above 20 kV has been included, 3) CREEPAGE DISTANCES have been aligned with CLEARANCES; n) 7.4.3.1 and 7.4.3.5: requirements for CONTACT TIPS with protection class IP2X and retractable insulating sleeve have been added; o) 7.4.3.2: CONTACT TIPS are now also applicable to non-contact probes; p) 7.5 (formerly 6.5) has been restructured (various editorial changes); q) 7.5.2.3.2: the values in Table 5 have been recalculated; r) 7.6.2: voltage tests on CLEARANCES are performed without moisture preconditioning; s) the pre-treatments for endurance tests have been deleted from Clause 10 and moved to 9.2; t) 11.1 has been deleted; u) 13.2: an exception has been added for the installation of type E probes; removable CONTACT TIPS that are marked are permitted; v) Annex F: Figure F.1 has been revised; w) the new Annex G for determining CLEARANCES for Table 2 has been added; x) the new Annex H on conductor-neutral voltage in common power systems has been added; y) the references have been updated.
