This part of IEC 61300 describes the various methods for measuring the attenuation of fiber optic components. The document is not intended for use with DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) components. Methods for measuring the attenuation of DWDM components are described in IEC 61300-3-29. The standard contains the fundamentals of measurement, a description of the measurement setup, calibration and implementation, documentation and evaluation of the measurement. It is also not suitable for attenuation measurements on randomly assembled connectors. IEC 61300-3-34 and IEC 61300-3-45 shall be used in this case. The standard differs from DIN EN 61300-3-4:2013-11 as follows: a) addition of Clause 3 containing terms, definitions and abbreviated terms; b) addition of a new LSPM measurement method, insertion method (D); c) addition of Annex A describing attenuation measurement of multicore fibre; d) changed reference test method to insertion C and alternative test method to substitution or insertion D for power meter and type 4 DUT. The standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users through its application and provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing.
This document replaces DIN EN 61300-3-4:2013-11 .
