Overview

This part applies specifically to the use of wind measuring devices mounted on meteorological masts, turbine nacelles, or turbine rotors and measure the wind at the location where the devices are mounted. The technical content of this document was previously found in IEC 61400-12-1, Edition 2. As a result of the increasing complexity of this source document TC88 decided that restructuring the IEC 61400-50-12 series of standards into a series of more specific parts would allow for more efficient management and maintenance in the future. This document has been created as part of this restructuring process. This document excludes remote sensing devices that measure wind at a location remote from where the instrument is mounted (for example, vertical profile or forward-looking lidars). Such measurements are required for some of the evaluation and testing procedures for wind energy and wind turbine technology.
