Overview

This part of the DIN EN 61439 (VDE 0660-600) series of standards specifies the special requirements for low-voltage distribution systems in public electricity network distribution assemblies, abbreviated as "PENDA". These switchgear assemblies are used for the distribution of electrical energy in three phase systems for which the rated voltage does not exceed 1 000 V AC and DC systems not exceeding 1 500 V DC. The purpose of this standard is to define terms, operating conditions, construction requirements, technical characteristics, and tests for PENDAs. This standard applies to all PENDAs, regardless of whether they are designed, manufactured, and tested as individual units or manufactured in larger quantities as series products. This document does not apply to individual devices and self-contained components, such as motor starters, fuse switches, electronic equipment, etcetera which comply with the relevant product standards. Furthermore, this standard does not apply to switchgear assemblies that are assigned to other product parts in this series of standards. The standard differs from DIN EN 61439-5 (VDE 0660-600-5):2015-10 as follows: a) deletion of the requirement to perform mechanical tests at -25°C if enclosures are made of a metallic material; b) addition of assumed load factors for power supply by power plants and for charging applications for electric vehicles; c) additional voltage tests when a PENDA is used in a distribution station with separate HV and LV earthing; d) further explanations on representative test specimens for type approval. Typical applications for products according to this standard are energy distributors in public supply networks. Both for indoor use, for installation within substations, and outdoors, as a switchgear assembly with an appropriate enclosure.
