This document is applicable to stationary or portable, single-phase or polyphase, air-cooled (natural or forced) general purpose reactors including alternating current, premagnetised and current compensated independent or associated dry-type reactors. The windings can be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. This part of IEC 61558 deals with the safety of small reactors for general applications. Attention is drawn to the following if necessary: - for reactors intended to be used in vehicles, on board ships, and aircraft, additional requirements (from other applicable standards, national rules, etcetera); - measures to protect the enclosure and the components inside the enclosure against external influences such as fungus, vermin, termites, solar-radiation, and icing should be considered; - the different conditions for transportation, storage, and operation of the reactors should also be taken into consideration; - additional requirements in accordance with other appropriate standards and national rules may be applicable to reactors intended for use in special environments, such as in tropical regions. This document does not apply to: - reactors covered by IEC 60076-6; - ballast for tubular fluorescent covered by IEC 61347-2-8; -ballast for discharge lamps (excluding tubular fluorescent lamps) covered by IEC 61347‑2‑9. The standard differs from DIN EN 61558-2-20 (VDE 0570-2-20):2011-09 as follows: a) adjustment of structure and references in accordance with IEC 61558-1:2017; b) additional Annex AA with references for characteristic parameter measurements; c) additional Annex BB for associated reactors with frequencies above 500 Hz; d) additional Annex CC for partial discharge. Typical applications covered in this document include stationary or portable, single-phase or polyphase, air-cooled (natural or forced) general purpose reactors.
This document replaces DIN EN 61558-2-20:2011-09; VDE 0570-2-20:2011-09 .
