Overview

This part of IEC 62271 applies to the following: - gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) assemblies for alternating current in accordance with IEC 62271-203 with rated voltages above 52 kV for indoor and outdoor installation, including their supporting structures; - metal enclosed switchgear assemblies for rated voltages above 1 kV and up to 52 kV, which comply with IEC 62271-200 (metal enclosed) and IEC 62271-201 (solid-insulation enclosed), which are floor-mounted and intended for use under seismic conditions. Information on interactions between supporting structures and the ground/foundations is provided in Subclause 4.3.3. The seismic qualification of switchgear assemblies takes into account the testing of typical switchgear assemblies in combination with analytical methods. The interaction between directly attached auxiliary and control equipment and switchgear assemblies is taken into account. Seismic qualification includes the selection of the seismic qualification class (Clause 4), the procedures for qualification by testing (Clause 5) and combined testing and calculation (Clause 6), the acceptance criteria (Clause 7), and the documentation of seismic qualification (Clause 8). The qualification of switchgear assemblies for earthquakes is only carried out on request. The standard differs from DIN EN 62271-207 (VDE 0671-207):2013-02 as follows: a) modification of the minimum voltage rating from 52 kV to above 1 kV in order to include medium voltage equipment previously being within IEC TS 62271-210 scope; b) further harmonisation of qualification procedures with the revised IEEE Std 693-2018, Annex A and Annex P, including the following: c) matching this document's required response spectra with IEEE 693-2018 performance level spectra and IEC TS 62271-210 spectra; d) addition of a step-by-step procedure assisting the user of this document to select an appropriate seismic qualification level combining seismic integrity with cost-effective design; e) addition of analytical earthquake component combination techniques; f) reference to publicly available accelerograms specially developed to match the IEEE 693-2018 spectra for testing and analysis purposes, since this document and IEC TS 62271-210 spectra are identical in shape with IEEE 693 spectra. g) various enhancements of test procedures; h) addition of minimum contents for seismic qualification reports.
