This document is applicable to system components in a bus system for control by digital signals of electronic lighting equipment. This part contains general requirements for system components. This third edition of IEC 62386-101 is intended for use in conjunction with IEC 62386-102 and the various parts of the IEC 62386 -2x for control gear, as well as with IEC 62386-103 and the various parts of the IEC 62386-3x series of standards for the specific requirements for control devices. The control methods, algorithms, and data exchange methods used by application control devices for lighting control are not within the scope of the IEC 62386 series of standards. EMC requirements are not within the scope of the IEC 62386 series of standards. The standard differs from DIN EN 62386-101 (VDE 0712-0-101):2020-08 as follows: a) the scope has been updated; b) the clauses on safety and earthing have been updated and extended; c) references have been updated; d) the use of bus-power supply and external-power supply has been clarified; e) polarity sensitivity for bus units including a bus power supply has been updated; f) frame sizes of 32 bits are no longer reserved. This document supports the design, construction, and programming of system components with digital interfaces for integration into a DALI bus system for lighting control.
