This document, Part 7 of the IEC 62471 series, specifies an application-related assessment of the photobiological safety of electrical light sources and luminaires in normal use and establishes application-specific emission limits based on the guidelines of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) for exposure limits. The assessment shall be applied to electrical light sources and luminaires that emit radiation predominantly in the visible spectral range (380 nm to 780 nm) and are used to illuminate spaces or objects or used for signalling. This document deals with the assessment of light sources and luminaires with regard to hazards: - from optical radiation; - from actinic UV; - from UV-A; - to the retina from blue light; - from blue light from small light sources; - to the retina and skin from thermal effects; - to the retina from infrared radiation. Electrical light sources and luminaires that mainly emit radiation outside the visible spectral range (380 nm to 780 nm) (such as UV sterilizers or industrial heating devices) are not covered by this document. This document is used for the photobiological assessment of light sources and luminaires used to illuminate spaces or objects or used for signalling.
