Overview

This part of IEC 62561 specifies the requirements and tests for metallic connection components that form part of a lightning protection system (LPS). Typically, these can be connectors, clamps, bonding and bridging components, expansion pieces and test joints. This part of IEC 62561 covers requirements and tests for lightning protection system components (LPSC) used in the construction of lightning protection systems (LPS) designed and installed in accordance with the IEC 62305 series. The testing of components for potentially explosive atmospheres is not covered by this document. The standard differs from DIN EN 62561-1 (VDE 0185-561-1):2017-12 as follows: a) definitions of the connection types specified in the "Scope" clause have been added. b) the classification of installation locations has been specified in greater detail; c) the document has been updated in accordance with the new edition of ISO 22479:2019 for use in humid, sulfur-containing atmospheres; d) a new normative Annex E for abbreviated test procedures has been introduced. For the purposes of this document the following connection types are considered as connection components: exothermic, brazing, welding, clamping, crimping, seaming, screwing or bolting.
