The standard applies to underwater acoustics for one-, two-, and three-dimensional acoustic wave vector receivers in the frequency range 5 Hz to 10 kHz. Vector receivers that measure either sound particle motion or sound pressure gradients are considered. In contrast to conventional piezoelectric hydrophones, which are sensitive to sound pressure, vector receivers measure the movement of sound particles (velocity, acceleration, or displacement) or the sound pressure gradient, which provide strong directional information in their operating frequency range. The standard specifies requirements for the calibration of acoustic wave vector receivers in the frequency range 5 Hz to 10 kHz. The following types of calibration are covered by the standard: - free-field calibration; - calibration in standing wave tube; - calibration in a travelling wave tube.
