This document specifies a horizontal method for the detection by enrichment or direct plating of Campylobacter spp. It is applicable to - products intended for human consumption, - products intended for animal feeding, - environmental samples in the area of food and feed production, handling, and - samples from the primary production stage such as animal faeces, dust, and swabs. The detection of Campylobacter requires three successive stages and, depending on the type of sample and the purpose of the examination, three different detection methods can be used: Detection method A: detection of Campylobacter by enrichment in samples with a low number of Campylobacter and a low amount of accompanying flora and/or with stressed Campylobacter; Detection method B: detection of Campylobacter by enrichment in samples with a low number of Campylobacter and a high amount of accompanying flora; Detection method C: detection of Campylobacter by direct plating in samples with a high number of Campylobacter. The responsible committee for this standard is NA 057-01-06 AA "Mikrobiologie der Lebensmittelkette" ("Microbiology of the food chain") at DIN Standards Committee Food and Agricultural Products (NAL).
