Overview

This standard contains safety requirements. This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. This document provides safety requirements specific to prepress and press equipment and systems. This document provides additional safety requirements for the design and construction of new prepress and press equipment, and the auxiliary equipment integrated into the press control system. This document is not applicable to prepress and press equipment and systems manufactured before the date of its publication. This standard differs from DIN EN 1010-2:2011-05 as follows: a) in 6.2.3 requirements in relation to guarding in-running nips have been summarized and supplemented, among other things also regarding the continuous rotation of the anilox roll in flexo presses and gravure printing presses; b) in 6.3.4 an exception has been added for the movement of the inkjet heads when closing the protective device; c) in 6.6.1.3 the requirements for securing whole body access on deliveries have been adapted to the state of the art; d) in Clause 7 requirements for automatic and semi-automatic printing plate changing have been revised; e) in subclauses 8.3.2, 8.3.3, 8.7.2, 8.7.3, 15.9 and B.6.2.2.2 the flash point has been adapted to the Globally Harmonised System (GHS, flammable liquids 60 °C); f) requirements for large-format inkjet digital printing machines (wide-format inkjet digital printing machines) have been added in 8.12 and 15.11; g) in 8.2.1 the requirements for the fire and explosion protection of continuous-flow drying devices have been revised; h) in 8.2.2 requirements for the fire protection of web-fed rotary gravure presses and web-fed rotary flexo presses have been included; i) a new subclause 8.13 on dust protection requirements for web offset printing presses has been added; j) in 9.4 a requirement for inkjet printing systems in connection with emergency stop has been added; k) in Clause 12 an exception for the permissive period for the automatic machine mode with double-push sequence has been included; l) the clause on colours for manual controls has been deleted; m) the list of significant hazards has been transferred to an informative Annex A; n) the informative Annex A on emission values has been moved to Annex B and revised as follows: 1) selected measurement locations for the measurement of emissions of ink mist, varnish mist, ammonia, VOC IPA, VOC hydrocarbon compounds have been specified; 2) a new limit value for ammonia at measurement location 2 has been specified; 3) the measurement conditions for VOC IPA (6 % IPA in dampening water, measurement during entire washing program) have been specified. This document (EN ISO 12643-2:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 130 "Graphic Technology" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 198 "Printing and paper machinery - Safety", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The national interests during preparation were represented by Working Committee NA 060-23-01 AA "Druck- und Papierverarbeitungsmaschinen" ("Printing and paper converting machines") of Section "Printing and paper machinery" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers of printing machines, and of the employers' liability insurance association Energie Textil Elektro Medienerzeugnisse (BG ETEM) contributed to this standard.
