This standard contains safety requirements. This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant to converting equipment and systems used in the corrugated board, package printing, converting and graphic technology industries (see Clause 5), when it is used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This document is applicable to converting equipment not covered by other parts of ISO 12643. This document is not applicable to the machinery or machinery components manufactured before the date of its publication. This standard differs from DIN EN 1010-4:2010-12 and DIN EN 1010-5:2005-10 as follows: a) all requirements for paper converting machines have been taken over from DIN EN 1010-5:2005-10, except the requirements for hand-fed platen machines for cutting and creasing; b) all requirements for binding and finishing machinery have been moved to DIN EN ISO 12643-3:2023; c) figures have been updated and supplemented throughout the document; d) in 6.3.3 the description of measures to safeguard the movable splicer module corrugated board machinery has been revised; e) in 6.8.2 an exception to the continued running of glue rollers in the gluing unit of corrugated board machinery in case of an emergency stop has been added; f) in 6.16.1 the maximum allowable speed of the conveyor belt feeding stacker devices of corrugated board machinery has been limited to 45 m/min if access is required for production reasons; g) in 7.3.1 the deflection of the rollers in the roller tracks of folding box gluing machines has been expanded from the first roller to all rollers; h) in Clause 8 requirements for pre-feeders have been included; i) in 9.2.4 requirements for residual pile monitoring as a safety device for in-line machines have been added, and a figure showing the safeguarding of hazard points outside the sidelays on feeders has been added; j) in 10.4 requirements on safeguarding the delivery on automatic flatbed die-cutting machines (by analogy with ISO 12643-2:2023) have been added; k) a new Clause 11 on roller press die-cutters has been added; l) in Clause 13 the requirements for machinery for producing envelopes have been revised, and a subclause on requirements for interlocks with guard locking has been added; m) Clause 14 has been limited to machinery for the production of interfolded facial tissues, and machinery for the production of sanitary items is no longer covered explicitly in this document; n) the list of significant hazards has been moved to an informative Annex A; o) in Annex B an example of noise declaration for paper converting machines has been added. This document (EN ISO 12643-4:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 130 "Graphic Technology" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 198 "Printing and paper machinery - Safety", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The national interests during preparation were represented by Working Committee NA 060-23-01 AA "Druck- und Papierverarbeitungsmaschinen" ("Printing and paper converting machines") of Section "Printing and paper machinery" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers of printing machines, and of the employers' liability insurance association Energie Textil Elektro Medienerzeugnisse (BG ETEM) contributed to this standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 1010-4:2010-12 , DIN EN 1010-5:2005-10 .
