The chewing function of toothless persons can be restored by implant-supported or implant-borne dentures. These prosthetic suprastructures are fixed to dental implants by suitable constructions. One fixing possibility are magnetic attachments. This International Standard specifies requirements and test methods for evaluation of the applicability of dental magnetic attachments used to allow for retention, support and stabilization of crowns and bridges, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, suprastructures on dental implants and orthodontic and defect prosthetic treatment, including obturators. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 2/WG 22 "Magnetic attachments" (secretariat: Japan) together with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The responsible working committee at DIN is NA 014-00-21 AA "Dentalimplantate" ("Dental implants") of NADENT.
