Overview

This International and European Standard recommends dimensions and specifies requirements and test methods for laboratory glassware manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3 and provided with a vacuum jacket for thermal insulation. It covers Dewar vessels, vacuum-jacketed reaction vessels and vacuum-jacketed columns intended for laboratory use and laboratory related applications. Typical dimensions are given in Tables 1 to 5. This standard includes safety requirements within the meaning of the Produktsicherheitsgesetz (ProdSG) (German Product Safety Act). For laboratory work using vacuum-jacketed vessels (Dewar vessels, vacuum-jacketed reaction vessels and vacuum-jacketed columns), the safety requirements specified in BGI/GUV-I 850-0 are to be observed. This International Standard does not apply to large scale production equipment and equipment operated with pressures of more than 0,1 bar above atmospheric pressure. The standard has been adopted by CEN/TC 332 "Laboratory equipment" from the International Standards Organization ISO. It has been prepared in ISO/TC 48 "Laboratory equipment"; the standard DIN 12492:1998, which was previously applicable in Germany, served as guidance. All the specified committees are under German secretariat. This standard differs from DIN 12492:1998-08 as follows: references to national regulations, technical rules and standards have been replaced appropriately. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 055-01-03 AA "Glasgeräte und Apparate" ("Glassware and glass apparatus") at DIN.
