This document specifies a non-destructive method for determining the softness of a leather. The method is applicable to all non-rigid leathers, for example, shoe-upper leather, upholstery leather, leather goods leather and apparel leather. This document has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 289 "Leather", the secretariat of which is held by UNI (Italy), in collaboration with Technical Committee "International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS)". The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 062-05-51 AA "Anforderungen und physikalische Prüfverfahren für Leder und seine Ausgangsprodukte" ("Requirements and physical test methods of leather and …") of Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP) at DIN.
