The classification of the solid wires and rods is based on their chemical composition. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 092-00-03 AA "Schweißzusätze (DVS AG W 5)" ("Welding consumables (DVS AG W5)") at DIN Standards Committee Welding and allied processes (NAS).
