Overview

This standard specifies general requirements, performance tests, marking and certification for sealed radioactive sources and establishes a classification system based on test performance. The tests fall into several groups, including, for example, the effects of exposure to abnormally high and low temperatures and a variety of mechanical tests. Each test can be applied in several degrees of severity. The criteria of pass or fail depends on leakage of the contents of the sealed radioactive source. A list of the main typical applications of sealed radioactive sources, with a suggested test schedule for each application, is given in tabulated form. The tests constitute minimum requirements corresponding to the applications in the broadest sense. The responsible committee is DKE/K 967 "Mess-, Steuer- und Regelungstechnik im Zusammenhang mit ionisierender Strahlung" ("Measuring, control and regulatory technology in connection with ionizing radiation") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
