The standard specifies test methods for determining the compatibility of metallic and ceramic materials used for dental restorations by testing the composite structure. The requirements given in this standard are applicable to metallic materials and ceramics when used in combination, and are not applicable to either metallic materials or ceramics when used alone. Requirements for metallic materials are given in ISO 22674:2006. Requirements for ceramic materials are given in ISO 6872:2008. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 2/WG 1 "Dental ceramics" (secretariat: ANSI, USA), together with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The responsible committee at DIN is Working Group NA 014-00-17-08 AK "Keramik-/Metallkeramik-Systeme" ("Ceramic-/Metal-Ceramic systems") of NADENT.
