Short description

The document describes a sampling and analysis procedure for the determination of formaldehyde (HCHO) and other carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones) that involves collection from air onto cartridges coated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) and subsequent analysis by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with detection by ultroviolet absorption. The method is specific for formaldehyde but, with modification, at least thirteen other carbonyl compounds can be detected and quantified.
