The particular requirements of this standard apply to electrical installations in indoor or outdoor locations where a bath tub and/or a shower is intended to be permanently placed in a specific location. This standard addresses specific requirements that deviate from the general requirements in Parts 100 through 600 and 800 of the DIN VDE 0100 (VDE 0100) series of standards. These include, among other things, requirements for protection against electric shock, as well as the selection and installation of electrical equipment. Particular requirements may be necessary for locations with permanently installed bath tubs or permanently installed showers intended for medical treatment. In the case of factory-made bathing and/or shower facilities in accordance with DIN EN 60335-2-105 (VDE 0700-105), this standard applies only if these facilities are permanently connected to the electrical supply. This document does not apply to emergency facilities, for example emergency showers used in industrial areas or laboratories. Swimming pools and whirlpools in accordance with DIN EN IEC 60335-2-60 (VDE 0700-60):2024-07; 3.5.103, in which the water is not drained after use, fall within the scope of DIN VDE 0100-702 (VDE 0100-702). The standard differs from DIN VDE 0100-701 (VDE 0100-701):2008-10 as follows: a) harmonization of the formal structure/clause numbering and references to the currently valid Parts 100 through 600 and 800 of the DIN VDE 0100 series of standards (VDE 0100); b) the scope of application has been expanded to include outdoor areas; therefore, "rooms" has been changed to "locations", and outdoor showers at a swimming pool have been added; c) the location is bounded by a horizontal virtual plane 3 m above the finished floor surface and a vertical virtual plane 4 m from the fixed water outlet for the bath tub or shower; d) a depth of 6 cm measured from the surfaces of the walls, floor, and ceiling has been included in the scope of application for cables, wires, and equipment not intended for these locations; e) showers in zone 1 of bath tubs are also addressed; f) zone 0 has been introduced for showers without basins; g) requirements related to fixed partitions have been clarified; h) the exceptions for the use of residual current devices (RCDs) for supplementary protection have been removed; i) the clauses on the selection and installation of electrical equipment, current-using equipment, and installation devices have been consolidated into a single Subclause 701.512; j) the requirements for cable and wiring systems have been moved from Subclause 701.512 to Subclause 701.522; k) the requirements for the selection of residual current devices (RCDs) have been included in 701.531.3; l) in zone 1, additional current-using equipment such as 230 V luminaires, optical glazing, and infrared and UV emitters are permitted; m) the requirements for electric floor heating systems have been omitted, as these have been transferred to DIN VDE 0100-753 (VDE 0100-753); n) Figures have been revised and new figures added.
This document replaces DIN VDE 0100-701:2008-10; VDE 0100-701:2008-10 .
