Overview

A type A joining piece for the receiving ship is mandatory for the ship-to-ship refuelling operation. The joining piece in accordance with VG 85282-2 is used as part of the NATO BREAKABLE SPOOL COUPLING on the receiving ship during a ship-to-ship refuelling operation. This standard documents the dimensions of type A, materials and requirements. The joining piece is provided with an annular notch as a predetermined breaking point for an emergency breakaway of the hose. With joining piece DN 150, the requirements of STANAG 1223 (Standardization of the Breakable Spool Coupling for Astern and Abeam Fuelling at Sea) and NATO ATP 16(D) (Replenishment at sea) are fulfilled. The VG standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 132-02-07 AA "Betankungs- und Pipelineschläuche" ("Tubes for refuelling and pipelines").
