Short description

The design rules are applicable to butt-welding elbows and bent tubes. The design rules take account of the fact that when an elbow is under internal pressure, higher stresses occur on the inside of the bend and lower stresses on the outside of the bend than in the case of a straight tube. No calculation is required for elbows according to DIN EN 10253-2 or DIN EN 10253-4. For elbows of type A, the allowable pressure factor applies in relation to the equivalent straight tube according to DIN EN 10253-2 or DIN EN 10253-4, Annex C. Elbows of type B withstand the same pressure as the equivalent straight tube. The calculation method in DIN EN 13480-3, Clause 6.2, can be used as an alternative.
