DIN 4108 Supplement 2 supports the planning, assessment and verification of thermal bridges in buildings. The supplement includes planning and execution examples for typical thermal bridges as well as reference values for thermal bridge verification and the determination of thermal bridge supplements. It serves as an important basis for thermal insulation planning in energy-efficient buildings.
The supplement provides planning and execution examples for thermal-bridge-optimised connection details in building construction. It describes procedures for equivalence verification of thermal bridges and supports the determination of thermal bridge supplements as part of energy performance assessments. The included reference values and design principles make it easier to assess and plan a wide range of connection details.
Thermal bridges affect both the energy demand and the building physics quality of buildings. DIN 4108 Supplement 2 supports the planning of thermal-bridge-optimised constructions as well as thermal bridge verification and the determination of thermal bridge supplements. The included reference values and connection details help reduce heat losses and reliably comply with thermal insulation requirements.
The 2019 edition was extensively revised and expanded. New additions include different energy categories (A and B) for determining thermal bridge supplements, additional connection details for post-and-beam constructions and information on detailed thermal bridge verification. In addition, the annexes were revised and further provisions for modelling window connections, roller shutter box connections and roof window connections were added.
