Short description
This Technical Report provides supporting guidance on the application of DIN EN ISO 16911 1. It has been produced in response to the request from Member State mirror committees for clarification on elements of DIN EN ISO 16911 1 and on how certain requirements specified within it should be interpreted. DIN EN ISO 16911 1 has been written to apply to a range of applications with different uncertainty requirements. This CEN Technical Report makes recommendations in regards to which requirements and performance characteristics apply to specified measurement objective(s) and application area(s) in order to achieve a consistent application of DIN EN ISO 16911 1. This Technical Report does not provide guidance on the application of DIN EN ISO 16911 2. DIN EN ISO 16911 1 describes a method which uses point measurements of the flow velocity to determine the flow profile and mean and volumetric flows. It also provides for alternative methods based on tracer gas injection, which may be used to provide routine calibration for automated flow-monitoring systems.
Overview

This Technical Report provides guidelines for the application of DIN EN ISO 16911-1. It was produced in response to a request from the mirror committees of the member states to clarify certain elements of EN ISO 16911-1 and to determine how certain requirements of this standard should be interpreted. The Technical Report contains recommendations with regard to which requirements and performance characteristics are applicable to specific measurement tasks and areas of application in order to achieve uniform implementation of DIN EN ISO 16911-1. The Technical Report does not provide guidelines for the application of DIN EN ISO 16911-2. DIN EN ISO 16911-1 describes a method for determining the flow profile, the average flow rate and the volume flow rate by means of point measurements of the flow velocity. It also offers alternative methods based on the injection of tracer gas that can be used to provide routine calibration for automated flow monitoring systems; it also describes a method based on calculating process conditions. The standard provides guidance on when these alternative methods can be used. EN ISO 16911-1 requires that all flow measurements can be shown to be metrologically traceable to national or international primary standards. The method described, which has been validated in field tests on installations in Denmark and Germany, can typically achieve measurements with an uncertainty of 5 % at flow velocities of 20 m×s-1. The Technical Report has been prepared by Working Group WG 23 "Manual and automatic measurement of velocity and volumetric flow in ducts" of Technical Committee CEN/TC 264 "Air quality" with the participation of German experts appointed by VDI/DIN-Commission on Air Pollution Prevention (KRdL) - Standards Committee. The responsible committee at the national level is Subcommittee NA 134-04-01-16 UA "Volumenstrombestimmung" ("Determination of volumetric flow") of Technical Section IV "Umweltmesstechnik" ("Environmental measurement engineering") of the VDI/DIN-Commission on Air Pollution Prevention (KRdL) - Standards Committee.
