Overview

Artificial intelligence (AI) is bringing about profound change in many fields of application, including the nuclear industry. It has been researched and applied in the nuclear industry for many years, and recent advances in AI have made it possible to tap into many additional areas of potential. This Technical Report provides an overview of AI technologies from a nuclear perspective and summarizes potential application scenarios for AI in nuclear facilities. It highlights proven and potential applications to promote a better understanding and acceptance of AI technologies for such facilities. The Report describes the use of AI as virtual sensors, for intelligent monitoring, in aging management, for preventive maintenance, for anomaly detection, as an operational decision-making aid, to enhance IT security and cybersecurity, and in design processes that take human factors into consideration (human factors engineering).
