This DIN SPEC specifies a test method for determination of waterproofness of footwear. It is not applicable to footwear worn as personal protective equipment. During testing, a length adjustable bending joint is introduced into the footwear to be tested so that bending can occur in the ball area. The footwear is fitted to the walking simulator so that the tread surface of the sole is supported on a movable clamping plate. The rotationally movable clamping plate is at a right angle to the horizontal and makes a specified angular movement at a specified frequency. The water tub is filled with water so that the footwear is immersed into the water 20 mm above the sole edge or 10 mm above the edge strip. Then the walking simulator is set in motion. This test is used for footwear with an incorporated membrane or when the main focus is put on the waterproofness. DIN SPEC is directed at footwear manufacturers, importers and independent test laboratories. The Committee responsible for this DIN SPEC is NA 062-04-52 AA "Schuhe" ("Footwear") at DIN.
