The objective of this functional description of component parts is to prepare a common and consistent description of the requirements to be met by the component part for all passenger car classes of the vehicle manufacturers involved with participation of the component suppliers to delimit potential development risks for this new technology. The functional description of these systems can give impulses to set the focus on the saving of resources in development and thus enable the use of the R744 cooling system at limited additional costs even in the start applications. The components are constructed to be identical or similar across the OEMs involved. The functional description results in clear frame conditions for the development and qualification of the components. This DIN SPEC describes the functions and requirements from the viewpoint of the vehicle manufacturer for quality, strength and service life of accumulators that are operated in the refrigeration circuits using refrigerant R744, and it also specifies the appropriate tests.
