Overview

This DIN SPEC has been prepared by a DIN SPEC consortium (temporary committee) in the course of the PAS procedure. The preparation and adoption of this DIN SPEC has been carried out by the authors named in the foreword. This document defines requirements and assessment criteria for the evaluation of gate-based quantum computers, quantum algorithms and their implementations including those for various benchmarking frameworks. These criteria shall provide the basis for the definition of a standardized set of core metrics (KPIs) and associated benchmark specifications that ultimately eliminate the need for separate hardware tests and enable manufacturers and users to do performance assessments in a fair and reproducible manner. The implementation of these specifications in a benchmark suite is intended to make the developed standardized metrics practical. The target group includes the following stakeholders in a quantum technology ecosystem: existing and future users of cloud-based and on-premise quantum computers, industrial customers that are interested in quantum computing, governmental and private investors, developers, manufacturers, test labs, certifiers and auditors.
